What is Ekhosis?
Well for starters, the name is rooted in the word ecosystem. A balanced community of interaction, each system feeding each other and their environment around them. I am developing a platform for people to create their own green, self-sufficient, ecosystem, and build my own along the way. I think people, myself included, can be wasteful with time, money, and resources. We live in a distractible world and its really easy to see months go by just droning through life. When I reflect on what I've done in the last 90 days, I want to remember one big milestone that benefits me and my place in the world. And when I look back on the life I lived, I want to feel love for the extraordinary, ordinary life it has been.
How did I get here?
I actually have a day job where I get to work on energy efficiency solutions and validate their impact. The industrial side of energy conservation is very bureaucratic and I would like this project to directly impact the people I work with. I have been directly involved in roughly 50 GWHs of verified savings projects, reducing about 35,434 Metric Tons of Co2e for the life of those projects. That's roughly offsetting the annual emissions of 1,100 people living just like me. While I feel good about that work, this project has the potential of impacting so much more than that. Building these Ekhosisystems have the potential to change the lives of the builders, which can create generational change in the world we live. I want that, I want to build that.
Real change is with people
People work on a different timeline. We report to ourselves and have control over our decisions. We can decide to do something simply because it makes us feel good, or invest in a long-term project with real impact in our lives, or our children's lives.
I can have meaningful interactions with people through this project and that drives me. To be involved in actions people spend their free time is a wonderful feeling. I am blessed to have the opportunity and motivation to pursue this passion project.
